The Teachers
Jess ☆♡
PRM Owner & Instructor
Jess (she/they) or @starlove began learning rope in 2015 based out of Brisbane. She has been teaching with Peer Rope Melbourne since May 2023 and took over ownership in Dec 2025.
Their approach to teaching is an eclectic mix and knowledge of various Japanese rope bondage styles. This informs their own unique style of facilitating to deliver their insights into the deeper meanings behind the practices of Shibari/Kinbaku.
Teaching the 'why' we do what we do to consider safety and technical engineering. She believes in a 360 degree learning experience, workshopping ideas, focussing on model led teaching, and embodies the somatic aspects to rope bondage.
Jess is a registered, trauma trained psychotherapist using an integrative approach with the modality of DMT (dance movement therapy).
Juliette
PRM Instructor
Barefoot Juliette is an international Shibari artist and instructor based in Naarm, Australia, who has trained extensively with various Japanese and Australian Shibari teachers since 2020. She is fascinated by the many unique ways Shibari connects people through the medium of rope, in a manner that explores, transcends and challenges our pre-existing notions of what it means to relate with another human being.
Juliette’s love for consensual sadomasochism and energetic communication through rope always tinged with a touch of the Wild Feminine - shines through in her performances and teachings.
Juliette loves sharing her passions and knowledge with others and brings over a decade of education and group facilitation experience to Peer Rope Melbourne.
Sylb
PRM Instructor
Sylb (she/her) is a rope performer and educator who has been teaching rope since 2021 with a primary focus on self-tying and self-suspension. Her experience in rope spans self-tying, and both giving and receiving rope in a variety of styles. Sylb’s style borrows from both eastern and western rope, blending approaches according to the intent of the tie, the needs of the person receiving rope and the environment. She loves to explore physicality and self-expression in rope through contrast in movement and stillness, and uses rope as a tool for communication, trust and intimacy. Sylb has lived experience with disability including chronic pain, hypermobility (EDS) and POTS. She strongly believes that rope can be for everyone and is always happy to workshop adjustments to techniques to support individual needs.
Sylb will be teaching Wednesdays on the Northside.
CptFathom
PRM Instructor
Ashkrr (he/him) (IG Fathom_ties) comes from a maritime background, working as a boat captain where ropework has always been part of everyday life, tying knots, splicing, rigging, and securing loads. That hands-on experience naturally led into an interest in shibari.
He has been tying and learning for the past two and a half years across various schools in Melbourne, with a consistent practice rooted primarily in Peer Rope Melbourne. What began as curiosity quickly became a dedicated path, and he continues to train in advanced classes while deepening his understanding of both technique and connection.
Ashkrr is an active member of the community, with a long-standing involvement in spaces that support marine conservation, men's mental health and environmental protection bringing a strong sense of care, responsibility, and presence into the environments he’s part of.
He is drawn to the balance within rope, the focus and satisfaction of clean aesthetic ties, the intensity the rope energy can hold, and the connection it creates between people. For him, shibari is a way to build trust, presence, and deeper connection.
As a teacher, Ashkrr focuses on creating a supportive, respectful environment where people can develop solid foundations, explore safely, and find their own relationship with rope. He is currently stepping into teaching beginner classes on Monday nights on the south side
